We have been very busy this first full month of Kindergarten.  The students are learning our 3 GVES Rules: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Ready.  We have been learning how to work together in our learning community.

In reading, we have been discussing concepts about print such as where to start reading, directionality, and the concept of a word versus a letter.  Have your son or daughter practice pointing to the words on the page as he or she reads independently or with you.  We also have been working on beginning sounds of words.  Ask your son or daughter to tell you the sound he or she hears at the beginning of a word and then ask him or her to tell you another word that has the same beginning sound.

In Math, we have been working on exploring math tools, learning the calendar, and counting.  Practice counting many things at home, such as Cheerios or days until a special event.

Our first field trip will be on Tuesday, October 19th to the Pumpkin Patch!  Chaperones are welcome to attend!

Finally, Scholastic Book Orders went home and are due tomorrow.  They will go home every month!

Thank you for a wonderful start to the school year.  We appreciate the donated snacks and volunteer hours many of you have already contributed.  As always please contact me with any questions!
